A Message from Diversity Project North America | 4Q 2020

Justine Phoenix, Head of Diversity Project North America

Justine Phoenix

As we begin to wind down the year and look toward 2021, I am optimistic about the tangible progress being made by the Diversity Project North America, and I am hopeful that the new year will be a time for meaningful change in the asset management industry.

Here are a few organizational updates I’d like to highlight:

  • Deirdre O'Connor, Managing Director at BlackRock, was named Co-Chair of the Diversity Project North America. Deirdre recently co-chaired the Industry Engagement Committee and we are excited to leverage her leadership and passion for D&I across the organization.
  • Industry engagement within the DPNA is strong at 34 members and counting. Please join me in welcoming Sun Life Financial, our newest member firm!
  • We are adding more ways for our members to get involved. Three new committees are being added for 2021. See below for a full list of committees and more information on how to volunteer.
Our committees have been hard at work advancing DE&I in our industry. Here are a few highlights over the past quarter:
  • Our 2020 Pulse Survey Report explores the perception of DE&I in the asset management industry. The survey results provide important insights and a baseline from which to measure industry progress. Thank you to the Benchmarking Committee for all of their efforts in creating this report.
  • Our Listen, Learn & Lead series focusing on authentic allyship continued with Part 2: A Discussion Around Race, and Part 3: The Latinx Perspective takes place December 3. We, along with the Event Committee, invite you to tune in to these important dialogues.
  • Members of the CEO Advisory Council exchanged best practices on advancing racial equity in the Asset Management Industry. We thank the Next Practices Committee for hosting this important event. Read the key takeaways in the Executive Report
  • Nicsa hosted a number of D&I sessions at its General Membership Meeting in October. Member firms shared wellness programs and inclusive policies that create engaging environments where workforces can grow and flourish. View session replays here.
  • We crossed an important milestone and now have over 1,300 followers on LinkedIn, thanks to our Industry Engagement Committees efforts and campaigns. Follow us here.

In addition, some of our founding members participated in creating this video showcasing the DPNA mission and goals. We hope that you share it with peers and colleagues in an effort to amplify the Diversity Project message.
